  • Interior minister says Rapid Response Force should keep an eye on both street crime and terrorism

Joint patrolling of Rapid Response Force (RRF) started on Monday to curb crime and terrorism in the federal capital.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan headed a meeting to review security situation. The interior secretary and Pakistan Rangers sector commander also attended the meeting.

Islamabad has been divided into 13 zones for this purpose. Rangers and police will patrol round the clock. The force is also empowered to conduct specific operations targeting terrorists as well as criminals.

The minister said these patrolling vehicles should not only check terrorism-related activities but also robberies and other crime. He asked the authorities to educate the people that complaints regarding law and order would be promptly responded at emergency telephone number 15.

A joint control room has been established for surveillance and monitoring of these vehicles as well as to reinforce the Rapid Response Force.

The minister said that special and effective measures should be taken for fully securing the Red Zone. He said the police staff deployed at sensitive locations should be visible to the public rather than sitting in their offices.

He said mock exercises regarding the security of important places in Islamabad be conducted to better equip the police to meet any eventuality.

Nisar said that kiosks in Islamabad should be strengthened to improve the stop and search vigilance of police by properly checking the vehicles and people entering the federal capital.

He said special focus should be on the training of police personnel to train them on the pattern of Elite Force.

The Minister directed all SPs of Islamabad to do security audit of their respective areas of jurisdiction and present reports within three days with special focus on Bari Imam and Margalla hills.

The minister said that I-9 police Constable Safdar who was injured while engaging with criminals on Murree Road a few days ago would be given special reward for his bravery.

He said that ongoing survey of Katchi Abadis should be accelerated and completed at the earliest. He also asked district administration to take measures against beggars.
