The three members of Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra), who had announced decision to suspend license of Geo TV, are likely to face suspension of their membership, a private news channel reported Sunday.

Three Pemra members – Fareha Iftikhar, Mian Shams and Israr Abbasi – had announced suspension of Geo TV license for breaching Pemra code of conduct by defaming key defence institutions and airing blasphemous content.

If suspended, the three members will not be able to participate in an important Pemra meeting on May 27.

Fareha Iftikhar told reporters that she had been hearing that she, along with other two members, will face suspension of membership. However, it is not yet confirmed, she added.

“We are appointed on a four-year contract term hence decision to suspend us will be unfair,” Ms Iftikhar said.

She said a proper legal reply will be furnished if they receive any show-cause notice in this regard.
