Power shortfall reaches 2900MW

Despite weekly holiday and claims of the government to reduce the load shedding, power short fall on Sunday reached 2900 MW.

Sources in the NTDC said that the generation on Sunday was 12,700 MW whereas the demand was 15,600MW as a result of which the authorities had to resort to scheduled and unscheduled load shedding.

There was between 10 to 12 hours of load shedding in Lahore and Multan on Sunday while the duration was 14 to 16 hours in rural areas as against the claims of the NTDC that the duration of load shedding is between 6 to 8 hours.

Sources said the gap between the demand and supply would continue to increase with mercury going up and no increase in power generation from the hydel sources.
