PTI chief expresses concern over military operation in NWA, demands premier to take political leadership into confidence about state of dialogue and nature of operation
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Saturday forecasted his party’s “country-wide rule” while reiterating serious concerns over the beginning of a full-fledged military operation in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) against terrorists.
Addressing public rallies in Abbotabad and Murree, the cricketer-turned-politician said that it was the duty of the premier to inform the country’s political leaders about the status of peace talks with Taliban and nature of the military operation that was being undertaken in NWA.
“The prime minister had a national consensual political mandate to conduct dialogue for peace and he has failed to inform the nation and its political leaders the status of this dialogue and the authorisation of the operation in NWA,” Khan said, asserting that it was also the duty of the prime minister to ensure that civilians were evacuated from the area, as was done in Swat, before a military operation.
“Instead, reports are already coming in from NWA about civilian casualties as people are caught in the midst of aerial bombings and helicopter gunships. This shows a total callousness on the part of the federal government towards the people of FATA who are citizens of Pakistan,” Khan said, pointing out that there were almost 2 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who were in a bad shape and almost forgotten by the State.
Khan demanded the premier immediately take the national political leadership into confidence on the state of the dialogue and the nature of the military operation.
It was equally important to give political ownership to any military action being contemplated as soldiers continue to be martyred while the government maintains an inexplicable distance and silence on the prevailing state of affairs, he added.
The PTI chief reminded the premier and the people of Pakistan that dialogue with Taliban had resulted in a “sharp decline” in acts of terrorism especially in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.
Also, Khan stated, the main tribes in Waziristan were fully supportive of the talks and the ceasefire. That is why, Khan added, it was “incomprehensible” why the talks would be undermined at this stage or why the political leadership would be kept in the dark by the government on the actual status of the talks and operations.
if wishes were horses beggars would ride – Imran Khan Saturday forecasted his party’s “country-wide rule”- wishful thinking
@ Abbas Ali
He is saying because of some reason dear
After attending his charity-raising functions in USA for construction of hospital named after his late mother, I had become a fan of Imran Khan.
Therefore, I have been closely watching his performance and used to have discussions here on his progress during the past few years. All my friends have concluded that this guy, Imran Khan, is totally a flop. He was a good charity-worker but a bad leader since he cannot give any logical reason for taking flip-flop stances on many issues. For example:
1. he has made the former CJ, Justice (R) Chaudhry, as controversial given the fact that IK was himself part of the entire movement for restoration of independent judiciary. When the CJ was in office, IK was always singing his praises but after CJ’s retirement, the language of IK has become sharamnak!
2. he supported the appointment of neutral CEC, Justice (R) Fakhruddin, but after his defeat in the elections he has become a worst opponent of Justice (R) Fakhruddin.
3. IK was over-projected by Geo/Jang group that tried to portray him as a “messiah” because of his charity campaigns in the past. But now he is a worst critic on Geo channel and has failed to accept the challenge of tv anchor Iftikhar Ahmed. He has jumped into Geo/establishment stand-off at the instructions of those pulling his strings.
4. IK got the over-projection since October 2011 during General Pasha’s tenure and upon Pasha’s retirement, his tsunami got fizzled out! That’s why no big name has joined PTI, other than the initial inductions of Khurshid Kasuri, Makhdoomzada Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Azam Swati etc. etc.
5. he was the 'Chief Coordinator' of Musharraf during his farce referendum in 2002. According to Musharraf, IK had demanded 100 seats from him and upon his refusal IK turned against him.
6. he used to call the PMLQ’s Chaudhries of Gujrat, who had committed to elect Musharraf 10 times in uniform, as status quo and corrupt gang (due to NICL, EOBI scandals), but is now hand in gloves with the same PMLQ.
7. Please witness the re-count of PP-150 in the presence of representatives of all candidates in end 2013. http://www.dawn.com/news/10405... The reality is that the victory got even bigger!
8. Despite having media-hyped government in KPK, he lost the by-election in NA-1 Peshawar. Is it the dhandli, dhandli during PTI's government??
The Burger's Logic is that when I win, I have the right. But when I lose, it is dhandli dhandli..
Well, I support him. He may not be perfect, but he is not corrupt. He is trustworthy and does not lie and cheat his people. I am sick of greedy corrupt politicians who have given us nothing but hunger, poverty, lack of health and educational facilities and insecurity.
