Political parties have welcomed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s decision to accept invitation to take part in the oath-taking ceremony of Indian PM-elect Narendra Modi.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Awami National Party (ANP) said that the decision would help bring stability in the region.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah said the visit of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to India would have positive impact on the region.

He said the visit was in favour of both the countries as it would result in building cordial relations between the two sides. “There should be friendly relations with the neighbours,” Shah added.

He said he had advised the Prime Minister to participate in the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected Indian Prime Minister.

The opposition leader said such visits and meetings would pave the way for discussion over the disputed issues between the two countries.

PTI President Javed Hashmi also welcomed the decision of the government, saying that the visit of the PM was in the interest of the country.

He said there would be progress over the core issues between Pakistan and India through these meetings. Hashmi said cordial relations with the neighbours were in the best interest of the country.

JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman also welcomed the decision of the government and said by accepting the invitation of India, the government had given positive gesture.

ANP lawmaker Ghulam Ahmed Bilour said the PM had taken a very good decision to participate in the oath taking ceremony of Indian counterpart.
