Speedy completion of Metro Bus Project is the government’s prime concern and no stone would be left unturned in the completion of the project, said Hanif Abbasi, chairman Metro Bus Project Implementation Committee.

“Ease and comfort of the citizens is our top priority. All necessary steps would be taken to ensure ease and comfort of the citizens during the construction work on Metro Bus Project,” said Hanif Abbasi while chairing a meeting at Jinnah Convention Centre on Friday.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad District Administration, Rawalpindi District Administration, Islamabad Police, Rawalpindi Traffic Police, Sui Gas, PTCL, NESPAK and other relevant departments.

The work for shifting of services lines including gas pipelines, PTCL cables, water and sewerage pipes and electricity lines should be completed within at the earliest so that the construction work should not meet any impediment.

He added all necessary steps should be taken to ensure safety of the citizens during the construction process. Shields should be erected around the venues of excavation work. The construction firms should make sure installation of revolving lights and reflectors around the construction venues to avoid any accident. The labour working on the project should also use safety gears to avoid any untoward situation, Abbasi added.

Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed said that finances are available for the project and the construction work should go on. Protection of environment should be given priority and not even a single leaf should be damaged unless it is utmost pressing, he added.

He said that Islamabad Traffic Police and Rawalpindi Traffic Police should make sure the uninterrupted traffic flow during the construction work. The stalls at weekly bazaar affected during construction of Peshawar Mor interchange will be provided alternate space. Two mechanical sweepers have been handed over to CDA while two more mechanical sweepers will be given to CDA after procurement to remove mud from roads of Islamabad during the construction work. Two mechanical sweepers are already operating on Murree Road, Rawalpindi to minimise mud during construction work.
