Chinese company to invest $3.2b in Thar coal field

A Chinese company Global Mining China will invest $3.2 billion to install a coal-based 900 megawatt power plant at Thar coal field, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.

The Chinese firm will invest $1.5 billion to dig out 10 million tons of coal, whereas an additional amount of $1.7 billion will be invested to install a 900 megawatt power plant.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Government sources informed Radio Pakistan that work on four out of 12 coal blocks at Thar coal fields is already underway.

  1. it is good news that finally something has started moving in Thar for coal production and electricity generation by foreign companiesw. we have yet to see any Pakistani company given opprtunity to mine coal and generate electricity. our mechanical complex, machine tool factory and shipyard could develope plants if given opprtunity , but may be they cannot offer 'cpmmissions'.

  2. One of the blocks was handed over the Dr Mubarakmand for research into UCG technology. So at least one block is in Pakistani hands, as usual. It has had limited success.
