Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Shireen Mazari, on Thursday came up with facts and figures against Geo TV, blaming it for practicing ‘journalism of blackmailing’ in Pakistan, a private news channel reported.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the central PTI leader claimed that Geo provided maximum coverage to Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-N in 2013 elections whereas the PTI was on number three in Geo’s coverage slot.
“Geo is practicing journalism of blackmailing in Pakistan whereas Mr Sharif is violating the law made by his own party in the past. He is destabilising institutions by supporting a particular media group,” she directly pointed figure at the prime minister.
Mazari criticised Geo TV for airing contents against ISI chief after attack on Hamid Mir in Karachi.
“What action was taken by government when Geo was running eight hour long transmission against Pakistan’s intelligence agency, despite the fact that Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid was contacted by ISPR,” she questioned.
PTI’s Naeemul Haq was also present in the press conference. He said that Geo has admitted receiving 3 billion from UK government for running a campaign in Pakistan, and has also confessed to getting a large amount from US for Voice of America (V.O.A) program.
