No more floods, WASA vows

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has devised a plan for preventing flood in Nullah Leh and other nullahs of the town.

The citizens particularly living in low-lying areas of the city and near nullahs have been urged not to throw garbage and solid waste in nullahs and drains as they create blockage in the way of flood water.

Managing Director (MD) WASA, Raja Shoukat Mahmood said that the dredging work of Nullah Leh has been started which will be completed till June 20 at an estimated cost of Rs 6 million.

Other nullahs and drains of the town, which flow into Nullah Leh, would also be cleared.

He appealed to the citizens to cooperate with sanitation department and refrain from littering garbage.

He said the citizens should come forward and play their role to make the efforts of the sanitation department regarding cleanliness of nullahs a success. Filth and solid waste should only be deposited at specific points from where it could easily be removed, he added.

He said Nullah Leh mainly in low lying areas would be cleared of silt and solid waste adding the nullah would further be widened and deepened to save the city from the flood devastations.

Shoukat said that Nullah Leh at Katrian Pull, Pirwadhai, City Saddar area, Moti Mahal, Aamar Chowk, High Court areas will especially be cleared and the work would be completed before the start of monsoon rains.

He said a huge amount is required to eliminate the flood danger completely from the city but, WASA is making all out efforts with limited resources to save the citizens from the looming flood threat.
