USAID to rebuild 11 schools destroyed by floods in Sindh
The earth-breaking of the first of eleven modern high schools to be built by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of its $155 million Sindh Basic Education Program was held on Tuesday.
The ground breaking was jointly performed by Sindh Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah and USAID Provincial Director for Sindh and Balochistan Leon S Waskin.
Senior government officials were also present at the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Sindh Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro thanked USAID and the Provincial Director SBEP Leon S Waskin for this major educational investment and promised that the Sindh Basic Education Program would receive government of Sindh’s full cooperation. He also expressed his sincere appreciation for USAID efforts in promoting education in Sindh.
Syed Khursheed Shah appreciated the efforts of USAID and people of America for their continuous support for promotion of education in Pakistan particularly in Sindh.
Provincial Director SBEP for Sindh and Balochistan Leon S Waskin said that USAID is committed to supporting education in Pakistan, which is the key to a brighter future for Pakistan’s children adding that working together, the US and the Sindh Government will improve the quality of and access to education for the children of Sindh. He said that in the coming five years, USAID Sindh Basic Education Program will provide support for the construction of 11 new schools affected by the catastrophic 2010 floods and will support the Government of Sindh’s policy of consolidating, merging, and upgrading schools throughout the province.
