You can do better, IGP tells officers

While addressing the officers of Islamabad Police during a crime meeting held at the ITP office, Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Aftab Ahmad Cheema made it clear that the officials of Islamabad Police would have to be accountable regarding their performance and those ensuring effective policing would be encouraged besides strict disciplinary action would be taken against sluggish cops.

AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri, SSP (Operations) Muhammad Ali Naikokara, all zonal SPs and SDPOs and other senior police officials attended this meeting.

Aftab Cheema further said that transparency and merit would be ensured in the department. The professional and honest officers would be rewarded for their achievements while officers found involved in malpractice would be taken to task.

In order to reduce/prevent crime from the city and to ensure law and order situation in the city, close liaison between the police and the public would be ensured.

The IGP said that the police would have to tighten its hold around hardened criminals. He said that citizens would be given direct access to the officers so that their grievances could be redressed. The field officers would be activated to nab criminals involved in robbery, robberies, street crimes and other crimes of heinous nature.

The IGP said that an effective strategy is vital to reduce crime and also ordered to adopt professional as well as responsible attitude to mitigate the sufferings of the people. He directed to focus on resolving the public complaints, and take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens. He directed all officers to provide maximum relief to citizens and not to delay registration of FIRs. He said police officials responsible in delaying registration of cases and doing sloppy investigation would not be spared by taking strict disciplinary action. He stressed for speedy disposal of cases, investigation purely on merit and earliest arrest of criminals involved in various crime cases. He also emphasised the need to adopt zero tolerance against petty crime.

The IGP directed to launch effective crackdown for arrest of proclaimed offenders and court absconders. He said performance of all police officials would be reviewed in next meeting.
