Talk to tackle terrorism, Afghanistan tells Pakistan

Acting Afghan President Younus Qanooni in a meeting on Monday with Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif emphasised the need to initiate serious and friendly talks for strengthening relations and resolving problems between the two neighbours.

Afghanistan COAS General Sher Mohammad Karimi and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Syed Abrar were also present. The acting president said that terrorism is a common enemy of Afghanistan and Pakistan and overcoming the menace requires serious and constructive talks.

Qanooni also expressed his satisfaction over tripartite talks among Afghanistan, Pakistan and United States of America at the military level and hoped that the process would pave the way for wider cooperation towards peace and stability in the region.

The acting president noted that initiating confidence building measures between Pakistan and Afghanistan would lead to enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries.

General Raheel Sharif said Pakistan wants to boost friendship with Afghanistan and that is why he had started the talks with his Afghan counterpart.

Meanwhile, Afghan Defense Minister General Bismillah Mohammadi also met General Sharif and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
