Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will launch “Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for Less Developed Areas” in Quetta today.
The scheme is aimed at encouraging talented students of the less developed areas to pursue higher education by reimbursing 100 percent of the educational expenses of post graduate students.
Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairperson Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that the students undertaking post graduate studies at a Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved public sector educational institution and domiciled in interior Sindh, Southern Punjab (Multan, Bahawalpur and DeraGhazi Khan), Balochistan, less developed areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Kohistan and Dera Ismail Khan), Gilgit Baltistan and FATA are eligible for the scheme.
She maintained that 30,000 post-graduate students across Pakistan, including 3,852 students of Balochistan will benefit from the scheme.
She said that the eligibility criterion is based purely on merit with proportionate regional representation and appropriate representation of minority students, adding that 50 percent of the quota was reserved for female students.
