President Mamnoon Hussain inaugurated the first Urdu-Chinese Dictionary on Tuesday. He said the idea of Urdu-Chinese dictionary would go a long way in consolidating the deep bilateral relationship between China and Pakistan.
The president highlighted the significance of people to people contacts at the FudanUniversity and emphasised the need for the two countries to nurture these sentiments among the future generations.
The president is in Shanghai to represent Pakistan at the two-day Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
A statement from the President House said the President called for concerted efforts to promote similar contacts in the fields of education, culture, art, sports and media so as to anchor bilateral ties on more solid foundations.
He further said he was pleased to visit the historic FudanUniversity and said the lofty traditions of this great institution were rivaled by only a few in the world.
The President congratulated the Higher Education Press of China and PekingUniversity on publication of the first Urdu-Chinese Dictionary and noted that the launching coincides with the 63rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries that were formalised in May 1951.
The President termed the publication of the First Urdu-Chinese dictionary a remarkable achievement and appreciated the dedication, commitment and professionalism involved in its publication.
Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary were also present on the occassion.
