Keep textbooks away from children

Many students of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) educational institutions have still not received their textbooks after the start of new academic session despite assurances from the concerned authorities to ensure delivery of textbooks in the first week of May.

The classes for the new session started on April 14 while the required books could not be published in time by the authorities concerned due to which students are facing difficulties towards their studies.

Sameer Akhtar, a father, said, “My son studying in class 9th has still not received textbooks of two subjects and these books were also not available in the markets.”

“Non-provision of the textbooks after passing one month of the new academic session reflects the negligence on the part of the concerned authorities,” he said.

The officials of National Book Foundation (NBF), which was given the task of publishing the textbooks, claimed that they have delivered the textbooks to the FDE while the students have not received the books.

Anjum Shakil, another father, said, the college administration keeps the textbooks under its custody and provide textbooks to only those students whose parents pressurise them and ask for the books again and again.

He said students of the federal capital, which should be a model for others, are facing such issues what to talk about other provinces.

FDE Director General Dr Shahnaz Anjum Riaz said she has assumed her charge a few days ago and would look into the matter. She said a strategy would be devised to ensure delivery of textbooks to the students on time.
