IHW to be upgraded to 10 lanes

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to expand the Islamabad High Way (IHW) from Karal Chowk to Rawat to 10-lane in the wake of intensified traffic pressure.

CDA Planning division has issued its layout plan and cross sections. Now tenders will be invited for starting construction work. IHW is already 10-lane from Faizabad to Karal chowk and now it will be made 10-lane from Karal Chowk to Rawat. It will also be turned into 10-lane from Faizabad flyover to Zero Point. A new loop will be constructed at Faizabad interchange which was earlier left out.

Sources said CDA will soon hire the services of consultant firm to make IHW signal free and in this regard interchange will be constructed at Lehtrar More and Karal Chowk. Traffic mess has multiplied on IHW due to presence of thickly populated housing societies including Korang town, Pakistan town, Bahria town, Media town, Judicial colony, doctors town, PWD housing society,  National Police Foundation, Ghauri Town and others on both sides of IHW.
