After the massive success of Rehaai, director Mehreen Jabbar is turning to a lighter story with upcoming serial JacksonHeights. The drama explores the problems of overseas Pakistanis’ face.
Shooting for the drama has begun in New York’s JacksonHeights which is famous for it’s overwhelming South Asian population.
The cast includes Marina Khan, Amina Sheikh, Adeel Hussain and Adnan Jaffar.
Jaffar recently updated his Facebook status confirming this news.
According to a casting call, the story follows a Pakistani man who marries an American woman for a visa. The cab driver doesn’t is treated badly by his wife and daughter but his step-son John gives him some respect.
Expectations are of course high for JacksonHeights, especially with well known satirist Vasay Chaudhry on board. The writer masters the art of pinching the nerve of society in a light-hearted manner. He is well known for College Jeans, Main Houn Shahid Afridi and Jutt and Bond.
Jabbar has been living in New York for eight years and often discusses stories of overseas Pakistanis in her plays. But this time she has experimented with comedy and we are sure just like her previous plays JacksonHeights will be a hit too.
