Injured Pakistani student arrives in Lahore

The only Pakistani student studying in an IndianUniversity has arrived in Lahore on Saturday morning.

Due to the efforts of the Pakistan High Commission, Raza, 24, was able to return to Pakistan in a private airliner.

On his homecoming, he was received by his parents and a number of his relatives.

Speaking to media representatives, the student said he was happy to arrive in Lahore on his own feet.

Raza’s father said he would never send his son to India again.

Earlier on Tuesday, three men had attacked Raza when he was sleeping in his room at the Sir C.V. Raman Hotel, beating him with iron rods and liquor bottles. He sustained injuries on his head, neck and back.

Raza was doing a post-graduate course in South Asian studies. He is the first and only Pakistani student in PondicherryUniversity.

In response to the attack, the Student Federation of India (SFI) secretary A Anand had voiced concern over the incident and said the university must take all measures to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.

The university had also issued new restrictions on entries to the boys’ hostel.
