The federal Ministry of Defence and Punjab government have decided to place cell phone jammers in 14 jails of Punjab.
The government and the ministry signed a two-year agreement to place jammers in 14 jails of the province after a meeting at Civil Secretariat in the city on Friday.
Speaking to the media, Jail IG Mian Farooq Nazeer said that mobile phone jammers will be placed in 14 prisons of Punjab including Lahore, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Sahiwal. The agreement can be extended as well, Nazeer said.
Nazeer also said that public calling offices (PCO) have already been placed for the criminals to contact their relatives. He confessed that several inmates carry out their crimes through mobile phones.
