Karachi makes one’s heart bleed, particularly of a woman who is weak and still calls it home. Death rate is increasing day by day and criminals are at ease. Courts don’t function properly, let alone police and government. The Supreme Court listed three parties and none of them are at fault. When all the country is under attack, it is Karachi who has the reputation of being full of weapons and criminals. An operation might soon be underway to clean the city from weapons and criminals. Abdul Rasheed Godil, an MQM leader, says that weapons are just like gold for Karachi.
This gold is neither saving the people from criminals nor is justice being delivered. To surrender weapons would be like a bride giving up all her jewellery. MQM says the operation is targeting their workers. What’s left in the end is ‘Karachi’, a city infested with weapons.
You could ask what the city means to a mother who lost her son in Karachi when he refused to give away the phone and wallet. A life ended for such a little insignificant thing. We should accept the operation positively since that’s our only hope if we want to see Karachi safe and stable.
