The Karachi Operation (II)

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken a tough stance on the issue of targeted operations in Karachi. He is doing the right thing, for it is high time that the people terrorizing Karachi are brought to justice. Karachi and its people have suffered enough.

The prime minister said that the targeted operation in Karachi will continue and the administration would have full powers to bring terrorists to justice. The prime minister took all political parties into confidence and rightly so for this issue is about the security of Pakistan. He also announced formation of two committees, one will address the grievances of people and the other will look into issues of ban if illegal mobile SIMs and enforcement of biometric system for issuance of new SIMs.

The prime minister said, “We want cooperation from all stakeholders as everybody wants to see improvement in law and order in Karachi.” He emphasised upon capacity building of police and appreciated the hiring of retired army personnel. He said that there would be retaliation for the operation but the federal government would provide all possible support to law enforcement agencies.

The Pakistan government has implemented the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) to deal with terrorism and to bring criminals to justice and it is high time it is put into effect.

Amid this assurance from the prime minister that the safety of Karachi’s citizens is paramount General Raheel Sharif also said that army was ready to extend every support.

Let us hope that this operation is a success and Karachi and its people may soon be able to live peacefully without any fear for their lives or their honour.
