The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday restored the National Assembly membership of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) leader Qaisar Jamal.
A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani rejected election tribunal’s decision and reinstated Qaisar Jamal as member of the NA.
MNA Qaisar Jamal was elected from NA-47 in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas during May 2013 general elections by securing 11,328 votes.
On May 5, an election tribunal had restrained Jamal from his membership over a rigging complaint and had directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold a re-election in NA-47.
The court has issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the hearing of the case until two weeks.
