Sami warns of fallout in case peace talks fail

Jamiat Ulema Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief and head of the Taliban negotiating committee, Maulana Samiul Haq has warned that if the opportunity of negotiations was not utilised by the government then nobody would be able to control its aftermath.

Addressing a public meeting in Karak, Haq criticised JUI-Fazl chief Fazlur Rahman, saying that Fazl was speaking someone else’s words by declaring negotiation committees ineligible.

Haq admitted that the negotiations process had come to a “temporary” halt, however he was not hopeless. He said that Taliban abided by the ceasefire agreement and soon a way of talks between the nominated committees of both the sides will be paved.

HAKIMULLAH GROUP TO SUBMIT TO SHURA’S DECISION:

Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Haji Daud, representing the Hakimullah Mehsud group on Thursday said that TTP was serious in talks with the government and their group will accept whatever TTP Shura was negotiating with the government under the leadership of TTP chief Mullah Fazlullah.

“The government tried to negotiate secretly with some little known militant groups in order to cause split in TTP, specifically in South Waziristan, but failed,” Daud said, adding that the Hakimullah group will only accept a peace deal concluded by the Shura with the government and under the leadership of Mullah Fazlullah.

Replying to a question regarding peace deal, Daud said that Mehsud tribe specifically suffered too much, adding that the Hakimullah group was in favour of peace in South Waziristan. Daud said that the Hakimullah group accepted Fazlullah’s decision regarding the sacking of TTP South Waziristan commander Khan Syed alias Sajna and the nomination of TTP Deputy Chief Sheikh Khalid Haqqani as interim chief TTP South Waziristan for two months.

“Our group will accept and endorse all the decisions of Fazlullah as we accepted the decisions of TTP late chief Hakimullah Mehsud,” Daud said.

Commenting on the internal fighting between two TTP Mehsud rival groups in South Waziristan, Daud said, “Our group demanded from central Shura of the TTP to settle the internal dispute according to Sharia.”

Daud said that clashes between the two Mehsud rival groups were underway in South Waziristan Agency but he refused sharing details of the clashes. Daud added that Afghan Taliban intervened to settle the dispute between the two groups and made some demands, including ceasefire.
