Police raided a marriage ceremony and took the underage bride and groom into custody in Gizri area of Clifton.
According to details, police raided a house where a marriage ceremony was underway. Police took 14-year-old Areeba and 19-year-old Imtiaz into custody.
The girl’s age was mentioned 18 on the nikahnama.
The police took action on the complaint Aziz Allahdad, a relative of the bride. Areeba told the police that her marriage was done after the consensus of her mother.
According to the Muslim Personnel Act, a case can be registered in this regard. The couple will be presented before the court.
Last month, a resolution was presented in the Sindh Assembly for the prevention of underage marriages.
