The final results of Afghanistan’s presidential elections will be announced Thursday, the country’s election commission said Wednesday.
The first round took place April 5.
Preliminary vote counts show that former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah leads and is followed by former finance minister Ashraf Ghani. If neither candidate earns 50% plus 1 vote, there will be a run-off between those leading candidates.
The results were going to be released Wednesday, but there was a delay because a final decision had not been made over fraud complaints. The results are expected to be issued around 11am Thursday.
