Two more polio cases surfaced in the country on Monday, with one in Karachi and another in Miranshah, a town of North Waziristan, mounting the number of polio affected children to 61 in the country.
The health officials said the polio virus was now detected in a one-and-a-half-year-old boy, a resident of Gadap Town, Karachi.
They said the parents of the child had refused to get polio drops administered to their child. The Prime Minister’s Polio Cell confirmed that the number of polio cases has reached to 61 in the country.
Last month, a seven-month-old child was found inflicted with polio in the same neighborhood – Gadap Town, where parents often refuse to get their children vaccinated against polio. Gadap Town is enlisted as high-risk area for polio.
Another polio case was detected in Miranshah in a 14-month-old baby girl.
