World Health Organization representative in Pakistan Nima Saeed Abid has said that travel recommendations for Pakistan are meant to control international spread of polio virus.
In an interview with Radio Pakistan he said the recommendations are temporary and will be reassessed after three months. He said Pakistan is one of the ten countries with active circulation of polio virus. He said Pakistan falls in exporting category because a virus detected in Afghanistan was originated in Pakistan during this year.
Dr Nima Saeed is also hopeful that polio vaccination is now underway in the Polyclinic in the federal capital which is a positive step. The WHO is committed to facilitating the government of Pakistan and will continue supporting all the steps taken to implement WHO recommendations to protect the world from polio he added.
