Sheikh puts weight behind Khan

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed has come forth to support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan who is pursuing a vigorous campaign against irregularities in last year’s general elections.

“It’s unfortunate that the government is destabilizing the democracy which has threats from none other than the PML-N government itself,” said the AML president while speaking to media persons alongside Imran Khan outside the Parliament House.

Rasheed called for investigation into by-polls held in Punjab, “Rulers are afraid of mass movements,” he said.

Imran Khan has announced a rally at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on May 11 against what he called ‘theft of public mandate.’ He vowed to show the power of his ‘tsunami supporters’ in the federal capital.

Khan is pursuing a vigorous campaign against irregularities in last year’s general elections, blaming the ruling PML-N for massive rigging in Punjab, the stronghold of Nawaz Sharif’s politics.

Khan’s PTI, which rules Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with coalition partner Jamaat-e-Islami has challenged results of several constituencies in Punjab and called for recounting of votes, initially in four constituencies of the province.
