200,000 children vaccinated in anti-polio drive

Over 200,000 children, below five years age, were administered anti-polio drops during a three-day long drive launched in high risk areas of the city and cantonment starting from May, 5.

Under the drive, the polio teams visited 28 union councils of Rawalpindi city and cantt area, which had been declared high-risk areas, Executive District Officer (EDO- Health) Dr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal said.

In the recently concluded regular campaign, he said, 711,744 children up to five years of age were administered drops to prevent the younger generation from the crippling disease. He said the purpose for launching the special drive is presence of people coming from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, especially after sewage samples collected from these areas indicated the presence of polio virus.

The city’s executive district officer monitored the campaign and visited various areas to inspect the working of polio teams.
