Verdict reserved on pleas for bail cancellation of Joseph Colony arson accused

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday reserved verdict on petitions for bail cancellation of accused involved in Joseph Colony incident.

The bench comprising Justice Shahid Hameed Dar and Justice Ali Baqar Najfi was hearing the petitions filed by Punjab Prosecution Department for bail cancellation of 70 accused including Umar Mehmood, Fazal Hussain, Sheikh Khalil, Mubashar,Tariq, Muhammad Riaz, Fazal Akbar Khan, Mukhtar Ahmad, Muhammad Munawaar Khan, Inam ul Haq, Haji Khar Bakhsh, Muhammad Nazir, Abdul Rasheed and  Bashir Khan besides others. Earlier, an additional prosecutor general Punjab arguing before the court submitted that the trial court had granted bail to the accused despite the fact that the prosecution had solid evidence against them. He pleaded the court to cancel bail of the accused.

However, the defendants’ counsels pleaded the court to dismiss the petitions on the ground that the accused were innocent and no evidence was available against them.
