5.22m children to be administered polio drops

Extended Programme of Immunization (EPI) Additional Director Dr Nazir Hussain, has said that some 5.22 million children up to five years of age would be administered anti-polio drops during the current three-day drive.

He said that three consecutive polio campaigns would also be carried out in Lahore during May. He said that first campaign is being carried out from May 5 to 7, while other two campaigns would be launched in the second and third week of this month. Special anti-polio campaigns have also been scheduled in ten high risk districts including DG Khan, Lahore, Mianwali, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal and Toba Tek Singh.

He said that in Lahore 773,000 children would be vaccinated during the three-day campaign.

He said the Punjab government had made arrangements for vaccination of children travelling by buses or trains through Punjab and check-posts had been set up at all entry points of the province to administer polio drops.

“There is a need for national spirit and commitment to eradicate polio virus from the country,” he maintained.
