Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate two coal-based power plants with a capacity of 660 megawatt generation each at Port Qasim today (Tuesday).
The two power plants will be developed jointly by Sino Hydro Resources Limited, China and Al Mirqab Capital, Qatar.
It merits mentioning that Doha-based QINVEST LLC, Power Construction Corporation of China (Power China) and SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corp, Government of Punjab and Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) had signed a MoU for the development of 10 660 megawatt (MW) coal-based power projects at coastal areas of Gaddani in Balochistan in Doha last year.
Two of the projects in first phase would be inaugurated today while the remaining eight would be constructed in second phase.
The Port Qasim Power Plant will have the state-of-the-art technology that would produce coal based electricity with minimum environmental impacts and maximum efficiency.
Moreover, being a coal based power plant, electricity production costs would be lower as compared to furnace oil based plants.
t is high time to introduce local manufacturing of power plants be it coal fired , wind mills or hydro electric. pakistan has the requisite base in manufacturing smal power plants in heavy mechanical complex, machine tool factory and others. it needs only to revive these industrial bases for higher productivity and cheaper products. all pakistanis will gain except some will have to loose the kickbacks and commisions
This Project should start 5-10 years ago. But it is not too late.
Let it be completed with in shortest possible time on top priority basis.
Allah help us in ll such country / self developing matters.
