A day for the fire fighters

Punjab governor graces an event to mark International Firefighters’ Day

Firefighting is a respectable profession across the world and paid tribute to all those great firefighters, who lost their lives in the line of duty while saving the lives and properties of others, said Punjab Governor Mohammad Sarwar while speaking as a chief guest at an event organised by the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) on Sunday at the Governor House to commemorate “International Firefighters’ Day”. The members of the Fire Safety Commission including FSC Secretary Rafey Alam and secretaries of multiple departments of Punjab, architects and renowned media personnel also attended the occasion.

Mohammad Sarwar expressed his happiness to see the brave firefighters of Rescue 1122 and other departments, who have achieved success. He recalled his days in Scotland and said that the idea of establishing first modern Fire Service of Pakistan could only be materialised through international training by Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service Glasgow Scotland for rescue officers of Rescue1122. He, however, further said that in developed countries 90 % job of the Fire and Rescue Services is fire prevention, therefore, the community should step forward for establishment of safer communities in Pakistan.

He further said that the way Dr Rizwan Naseer has been delivering emergency services is appreciable in form of Rescue 1122 and it is my desire that I would have been able to give such remarks for other departments. He said in developed countries planning department is integral part of Building Control Authority and in case of any fire incident firefighters have to face any difficulty then first of all the officials of planning department are held responsible then authorities initiate action against the building owners. The Punjab governor further said that we are the best nation in the world and Pakistanis have good potential to excel in all walks of life.

Punjab Rescue Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer congratulated the rescuers on celebrating this day and also paid rich tribute to the services of those firefighters, who sacrificed their lives, saying firefighter is the real hero of society and firefighting is a noble profession. “They lost their own lives but succeeded in providing a sense of safety to citizens by their passion, professionalism and effective fire fighting,” he added.
