7,231 cases of gas theft valuing 6,357.31 m detected in nine months of last year
A total of 7,231 cases of gas theft worth Rs 6,357.31 million had been detected from commercial and industry consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Sui Southern Gas Pipelines
Limited (SSGPL) in first nine months of the year 2013.
According to official sources in Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, 11,010 mmcf was stolen from the areas of both companies in nine months of last year.
Besides a sum of Rs 1,029.96 million had been recovered by both companies from the gas thieves during the aforementioned period.
According to details, the Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited had detected 792 cases worth Rs 210.31 million both from commercial and Industry consumers in the same period.
The volume of gas theft detected by SNGPL is 10,731 MMCF worth Rs 6,147 million. Rs 974 million had been recovered by SNGPL from gas thieves.
The volume of gas was 2,370 MMCF worth 1,582 million by 6,180 commercial consumers while 8,361 MMCF gas worth Rs 4,565 million was stolen by 259 industry consumers.
Out of 6,180 cases detected from commercial consumers- as many as 2,776 cases of commercial gas theft had been detected from Lahore, 1,028 from Gujranwala, 592 from Sheikhupura, 528 from Faisalabad, 398 from Multan, 251 Gujrat, 216 from Peshawar, 141 from Sahiwal, 87 from Sargodha,
57 from Islamabad, 53 from Rawalpindi, 46 from Bahawalpur, and 7 gas theft cases had been detected from Abbottabad.
259 cases had been detected from industry consumers in first nine months of 2013 included 63 from Peshawar, 51 from Lahore, 35 from Gujranwala, 30 from Sheikupura, 19 from Multan, 14 from Rawalpindi, 12 from Gujrat, 11 from Islamabad, 10 from Faisalabad, 6 from Sargodha, 3 each from Sahiwal and Bahawalpur and 2 from Abbottabad.
Out of 769 commercial gas theft cases detected by SSGPL in first nine months of last year- 582 were from Karachi, 49 from Hyderabad, 47 from Quetta, 37 Sukkur, 28 from Larkana, 18 from Nawabshah and 8 from Jacobabad.
Out of 23 industry gas theft cases detected by SSGPL – 15 gas thieves belonged to Karachi, 7 from Hyderabad, and one from Sukkur.
