A five-member bench of the Supreme Court will hear the review petition against the disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Sumaira Malik from the National Assembly seat today (Monday).
The bench comprises Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman, Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan.
Sumaira claims that the University of the Punjab (PU), Lahore has already declared her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree genuine and the varsity has decided to challenge a court decision against her BA degree.
In a statement, a PU spokesperson said the court had not heard the university in the case. He said that Malik had taken the BA/BSC annual examination in 2002 under roll number 54,334. She had passed the examination and was subsequently issued the graduation degree in 2003, he said.
The spokesperson added that a complaint was received against Sumaira’s graduation degree in 2003 and after verification it was declared genuine by the university administration. The spokesperson said the university would appeal against the decision and expected justice from the independent judiciary.
