The government, in collaboration with representative bodies of journalists, is taking special measures to ensure safety of journalists.
This was stated by Secretary Information Dr Nazir Saeed while talking to journalists on Saturday. He said an Independent Information Commission is being formed to help settle the issues of journalists. He said various journalist welfare programmes, including establishment of a fund, a special cell at PID, health insurance and capacity building workshops, will be implemented to strengthen freedom of expression in the country.
Earlier addressing a function in connection with World Press Freedom Day by UNESCO, Dr Nazir Saeed said an improved draft of Right to Information Act is being finalized which will be submitted to the cabinet for approval.
