A sessions court in Islamabad on Saturday ordered registration of a case against Geo and Jang Group and Amir Mir for leveling allegations against intelligence agencies.
Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Jehangir Awan ordered the registration of FIR against the owner of Geo News Mir Shakilur Rehman and journalist Hamid Mir’s brother Amir Mir under Section 6-B and C of the Anti-Terrorism Act for leveling allegations against Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Petitioner Arshad Butt through his lawyer had filed a plea under Section 154 Cr PC seeking registration of case against Mir Shakilur Rehman and Amir Mir.
Amir had leveled allegations against ISI after his brother Hamid Mir was attacked in Karachi on April 19.
On the other hand, the counsel for Geo/Jang Group Faisal Khan argued that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party in the case while Islamabad High Court had already dismissed a plea on the same stance.
However, the court in its orders directed the Margalla Police Station SHO to register FIR against those involved in defamation of army and ISI.
So, what this is saying is that even though it is quite clear that Mir's claims seem to be backed up by evidence and that there is a high likelihood that the ISI is behind this (and probably many of the other murders in the past), no one is allowed to actually go after the government for their actions?
