More than 1,000 private schools located in various areas have been served notices to submit details of their commercial and professional taxes, school license fee and others by Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB).

RCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Fahim Zafar said that over 1,000 schools in seven wards of the Cantt area have been issued notices to pay tax on commercial use of residential units. They have been asked to pay professional tax as well besides getting licenses for setting up schools and colleges, he said.

The CEO said that the owners of private schools have been directed to submit details about the playground and parking areas for their respective institutions.

On the other hand, private schools owners have constituted a committee to negotiate with the Cantt Board. They said that about 1,100 private schools are imparting education to around 140,000 students. They stressed the private educational institutions are playing their positive role in the promotion of education without getting any government funds, therefore they should be exempted from paying professional and commercial taxes.
