Taking notice of a petition filed against unscheduled electricity load shedding, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial on Friday sought explanation from the federal government, the Water and Power Ministry and WAPDA.
The petition read that the Water and Power Ministry assured the court that unscheduled load shedding would not be carried out while citizens would only have to bear six hours of power cuts. However, locals were facing 16-18 hours of load shedding.
Bandial sought written explanation from the federal government, the Water and Power Ministry and WAPDA in this regard. The electricity shortfall increased with the rise in demand after the temperature soared up across the country.
According to report, the urban areas are facing 14 hours and rural areas up to 18 hours of load shedding.
Furthermore, business activities were also badly affected due to the prolonged hours of blackouts.
