A Peace Jirga (council) has called upon the government, Taliban and the military to extend the ceasefire and remove all hurdles in the way of peace talks, a private news channel reported on Thursday.
The jirga of tribal elders and ulema was held under the auspices of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in Peshawar’s Nishtar Hall today.
In a declaration, the trial leaders fully back the ongoing peace process in the light of unanimous resolutions passed by APC and the Parliament.
The moot demanded constitutional, political, economic and education reforms in FATA and called upon the government to make legislation to enhance representation of trial areas in the Parliament and the judiciary.
The jirga urged the federal government, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the military to extend the ceasefire and remove all hurdles in the way of dialogue process.
The conference was addressed by chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sami (JUI-S), Maulana Samiul Haq, who is heading Taliban-proposed negotiating committee, JI chief Sirul Haq, JI leader Professor Ibrahim and others.
On this occasion, JI leader Professor Ibrahim asked both the parties for ceasefire in respect of the sacred month.
JI leader said if the Islamic articles of the constitution were implemented, they give assurance that Taliban would accept the constitution.
