The animal is just as it sounds: a rare and unusual cross-breed between a zebra and a donkey.
Little boy: Khumba’s mother, Rayas, is a zebra, and his father, Ignacio, is a dwarf blue-eyed albino donkey. That makes Khumba a zonkey, a rare cross between a zebra and a donkey.
The story goes that there was some romance along the way.
A female zebra called Rayas, and his father, a blue-eyed albino donkey named Ignacio, used to visit every afternoon. Eventually, Rayas became pregnant.
The zoo says the animal is extremely rare because zebra and donkey chromosomes were thought to be incompatible.
