India’s former external affairs minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha has called upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to “save Geo TV from a complete closure,” Indian media reported Monday.

According to media, the Indian leader made this demand in a letter to PM Nawaz Sharif while voicing support for Pakistan’s attacked journalist Hamid Mir.

Sinha also described move by the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and the defence ministry to cancel Geo TV’s liscence as “backward and a retrograde step”.

Geo Television is facing a legal battle with the ISI after the channel broadcast a news alleging that the ISI chief assassinated its journalist and anchor Hamid Mir.
