A polio case surfaced in Gadap area of the provincial capital on Sunday. Sources in the health department said a 7-month-old boy was detected with a polio virus.

Gadap Town is enlisted as high-risk area for polio. However, sources told that lack of adequate arrangements in the area could be a reason of the polio case. Mostly polio cases are detected in Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district where polio vaccinators find it difficult to immunize children against polio due to security reasons. Meanwhile, the anti-polio campaign was carried out in 35 union councils (UCs) of Karachi while motorcycle riding was banned on Sunday. Children were inoculated against polio virus in Kemari, Orangi Town and Baldia.

Strict security measures were taken to avoid any untoward incident. Polio workers were accompanied by police. Personnel were also deployed on all entry and exit points of UCs undergoing polio drive.
