ISLAMABAD
The judicial commission formed to investigate attack on renowned TV journalist Hamid Mir on Saturday issued notices to the Sindh Home Secretary and inspector general.
The three-member commission comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman and Justice Ejaz Afzal will hear the case from April 28 to May 02 at Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
The first hearing will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM and notices have been issued to Home Secretary Sindh, IG Police, DG Rangers, Joint Director IB and DIG East and DIG Special Branch.
Separately, the United States had called on the government to bring all those responsible for attacks on the media to justice.
Asked to comment on attack on Hamid Mir, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said they continue to wish his speedy recovery. She said the freedom of press, including freedom of the airwaves and safety for journalists is of paramount importance to freedom of expression and to the healthy functioning of any democracy around the world.
On the question of blockage of Geo TV in certain areas, she said they are aware of these reports and that the Information Ministry has asked PEMRA to restore transmission and they continue to follow the events.
