Ministries to be shifted to Secretariat Block

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Committee on Allotments in New Secretariat Block at the Finance Ministry on Wednesday. Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal also attended the meeting.
The committee was informed that the New Secretariat Block is a spacious building under construction with 700,000 sq feet covered area and has eleven floors.
The New Secretariat building will be completed in next three to four months and it can accommodate the federal government ministries and offices which are currently renting their offices. The committee was also informed that currently Federal Government is spending annual rent of Rs 240 million on hiring of space by its different departments.
The FM after detailed presentation by the concerned officials said that the integrated allocation of space to the federal ministries would be made on need cum financial basis and it will increase internal efficiencies.
Dar directed the officials concerned at Finance Division to request federal ministries/divisions, attached departments, autonomous and regulatory bodies to provide data about the space rented by them, the rent being paid for the space and the duration of their existing contracts within a week.
He directed that no department should renew its rental agreement without obtaining NOC from the Finance Ministry. The committee will meet again to review the consolidated data.
The meeting was also attended by Advisor to Finance Ministry Rana Assad Amin and Additional Secretary Cabinet Nargis Ghaloo.
