E-office programme to promote good governance: Dar

Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday while appreciating the efforts of the Ministry of Information Technology said that with the implementation E-office programme, our objectives of efficient, transparent and good governance will be achieved in an effective manner.

He stated this while chairing a meeting at the Finance Ministry, which discussed the latest plans of the Ministry of Information Technology for the introduction of E-office Systems in different Ministries of the government.

The Minister of State for IT, Ms. Anusha Rehman Khan briefed the Finance Minister about the E-office project.

She said that E-office application will be implemented in a phased manner by the Ministry of IT.

The configuration of the network is initiated with the support of National Telecommunication Corporation.

With the application of this project, E-filing would be a possibility and different Federal Ministries and Divisions will be connected to each other through an intranet.

She informed that an agreement was already signed between PTCL and Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) in December last year for providing data hosting facilities by PTCL for the implementation of the E-office project.

According to Ms. Anusha Rehman, the E-office replication system in the first phase is being installed in six Federal Ministries/Divisions including Prime Minister’s Office, National Assembly Secretariat, Finance Ministry, Planning Division, Scientific and Technological Research Division and Ministry of Information Technology.

In the fiscal year 2015-16 another six Ministries will be connected through E-office project, she added.

The Finance Minister was told that E-Office team has already been deputed in the above mentioned six Ministries and Divisions to roll out E-office application and training is being provided to officers and supporting staff regarding electronic file movement.

He was also informed about the hardware issues with the Federal Ministries and Divisions.

Dar appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Information Technology and said that with the implementation this programme, our objectives of efficient, transparent and good governance will be achieved in an effective manner.

The Minister further said that this project will make Pakistan stand in the line of developed countries of the world and we will ensure delivery of efficient and cost effective public service to the citizens of Pakistan.

The Finance Minister assured the Ministry of IT that the hardware requirements of the concerned Ministries will be accommodated in the next fiscal year.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Waqar Masood, Secretary Finance, Akhlaq Ahmed Tarrar, Secretary IT Rana Assad Amin, Advisor to the Finance Ministry and other senior officials of the relevant Ministries.
