A seven-member Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Wednesday rejected independent lawmaker Jamshed Dasti’s allegations about immoral activities at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad.
According to media reports, the committee in its report said that Dasti’s allegations were baseless. However, the body would present its recommendations in the National Assembly (NA) to improve the security of lodges.
Earlier, during an NA session, Dasti had alleged that girls were brought to the lodges. The Parliament Lodges, he said, had become a “den of immoral activities” as liquor worth Rs 40 million to Rs 50 million was supplied there and the odour of liquor as well as charas was pervasive.
The National Assembly’s Secretariat had served a notice to Dasti on the directives of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. Both Sadiq and Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan had denied charges made by Dasti. The speaker had said that if Dasti’s allegations proved wrong then parliament would decide punishment for him.
