Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Tuesday welcomed the proposal for collecting single-digit General Sales Tax (GST) which in turn would offer relief to the common.
RCCI President Dr Shimail Daud Arain while commenting on a news report by section of press, observed that the fresh approach of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on the collection of GST is highly appreciable which not only the business community but also the general public would welcome, if implemented. He said that the step would help considerably curtail the tax percentage thus enlarging the tax net. The inclusion of fresh tax payers, the gap between tax revenue and tax percentage would be plugged, he added.
Dr Arain pointed out that fresh legislation to check rampant trends of tax evasion was need of the hour with the approach to bring all those well-to-do in the tax net without any discrimination. Not only this, but also there is a dire need for enacting strict laws to check the theft of utilities including electricity and gas and issuance of new connection for the facilities be made mandatory for those who are regular tax payers. He said that public awareness campaign be launched to educate the people on promotion of tax culture.
