Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf has said that government has achieved the set target for Haj applications on the opening day.
Talking to the state television, the minister said that designated banks have received Haj applications under Government Hajj Scheme from across the country. He said that government has distributed the application forms equally to all the designated banks specially the banks which have over 250 branches in far flung areas.
To a question, he said according to Haj Policy 2014, 143,368 Pakistanis would perform Haj and the government and private Haj group organizers will have 50-50 quota. He said under the government scheme applicants have been entertained on the basis of first come, first served, adding he said this way no discrimination was made.
To another question, he said that any person who has performed Haj during the last five years will not be eligible to perform Haj this year except as Mehram or the one undertaking Haj-e-badal. He informed.

“An additional amount of Rs 14,500 would be required from those applicants who opt to perform their qurbani through Islamic Development Bank.”
He said that government will send an advisory committee during Haj process which will monitor day to day activities of Haj organisers and will report back to the concerned minister. He said government will take legal action against the companies that will violate the agreement.
