The federal government is planning to double the water supply for Rawalpindi and Islamabad from Khanpur Dam and has ensured to release the funds of million rupees for constructing the new canal.
The government has issued directives to CDA and Cantonment board to prepare PC-1 in this regard. Population of twin cities is increasing very sharply therefore federal government has decided to use all possible ways to double the water supply from Khanpur Dam to overcome the incoming crises of water in near future, according to the sources.
Both CDA and Cantonment board suggested in their last meeting that if we double the supply of water from Khanpur Dam then we will possibly solve the water crises for twenty years in twin cities. The federal government has accepted the proposal and releases the funds and also instructed to prepare PC-1 for new canal from Khanpur Dam.
Both institutions have started the planning after the assurance of releasing of funds by federal government.
